Aka Mörser Karl, the Karl-Gerät was a German self-propelled siege mortar of huge proportions which could fire a 60cm shell of over two tonnes. The gun was transported by rail or road, deployed with a 35-tonne crane and needed modified tanks to move its ammunition. It was used between 1941 and 1945 most notably in attacks on the Soviet fortresses of Brest-Litovsk and Sevastopol, the suppression of the Polish uprising in Warsaw and during the Battle of the Bulge. Seven pieces were built of which one has survived.
