"A+++++++" ~ Joel P.
It was the British who named the American M4 tank after the Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman and their modified version of it, equipped with the powerful 76.2 mm 17-pounder anti-tank gun, was called 'Firefly'. It became the most common vehicle mounting the 17-pounder in the war and, from 1944 onwards, over 2,000 were manufactured. The original version of the M4 was the battle tank used in greatest numbers by the US in World War II with many thousand distributed through Lend-Lease noy only to the British and other allies but also the Soviet Union.
