USS Iowa: US battleship commisioned during World War II. When serving with the Pacific Fleet in 1944, she shelled beachheads at Kwajalein and Eniwetok and screened aircraft carriers operating in the Marshall Islands and was present at the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay. After involvement in coastal raids during the Korean War, she was decommissioned into the United States Navy Reserve and later, in 1984, reactivated. Decommissioned for the last time in October 1990, she was struck from the Naval Vessel Register in 1995, reinstated from 1999 to 2006 to comply with federal laws that required retention and maintenance of two Iowa-class battleships. Donated to the Pacific Battleship Centre in 2011, she now rests at Berth 87 at the Port of Los Angeles as the USS Iowa Museum.
USS Missouri: Iowa-class battleship of the US Navy nicknamed 'Mighty Mo' or 'Big Mo', the third ship such vessel to be named after the American state of Missouri. Ordered in 1940 and commissioned in June 1944, she was the last battleship built by the United States. She fought in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, carried out bombardments of the Japanese home islands and the surrender of the Japanese Empire which ended World War II was signed aboard her. After service during the Korean War (1950-53) she was decommissioned in 1955 but later, in 1984, brought out of the US Navy Reserve and modernized, her last military use was the provision of fire support during Operation Desert Storm early in 1991. Decommissioned in 1992, struck from the Naval Vessel Register in 1995, she is now moored at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, where she rests as a museum ship.
