M16 Half-track - Lego compatible COBI 2499 - 500 brick half-track anti-aircraft gun
"Really good quality, very good price. Instructions are better than Lego." ~ Chris A.
The M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage (or M16 Half-track) was an American self-propelled gun used for air defence. Based on the undercarriage of the armored combat vehicle M3, it was fitted with a rotating turret with its own drive of the same type as used in bombers, four 0.5 inch (12.7 mm) M2 Browning machine guns in a M45 Quadmount, capable of firing 500-600 rounds per minute. Famous for its effectiveness against low-flying aircraft and infantry it was nicknamed the 'Meat Chopper'. As well as the US Army, it was deployed by the British Commonwealth and South Korea and a similar version, the M17, was exported via Lend-Lease to the Soviet Union.
2,700 were produced by White Motor Company from May 1943 to March 1944, with a further 568 M13 and 109 T10 Half-tracks being converted into M16s. With advances in aircraft speed and design, the usefulness of the M16 was reduced. By the time of the Korean War, its use was in a ground-support role, being put out of service in 1951.
The model has a swivelling and elvating gun and operable doors.
